Please join John Canning, David Riccio, and Gianfranco Pocobene for a unique tour of the interior of H.H. Richardson's Trinity Church on Copley Square, artistically decorated by John LaFarge and a team of talented artists. They will discuss LaFarge's use of encaustic paint for the artwork and decoration as well as the current conservation of two murals and their approach to conserving and reinstating the unstable oil finishes and encaustic paint.

John Canning has over 45 years experience as a practitioner, educator, and advocate in the fields of historic finishes and preservation. David Riccio is a Principal of the firm and former APTNE Board member with over 20 years of experience, after jointing John Canning & Company in 1996 as a Project Manager. Both John and David have worked as consultants for architects, developers, and owners of museums, public and religious buildings throughout the United States.

Gianfranco Pocobene is one of America's foremost recognized fine arts conservators and has conserved La Farge's fine art at Trinity Church. Like John Canning & Company, Gianfranco has been associated with Trinity Church for over two decades. He is the Chief Conservator at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Please note that the current mural conservation work will be accessed via pipe scaffolding. Attendees wishing to ascend the scaffold will need to bring their own hard hat and wear appropriate footwear. A limited quantity of hard hats may be available for use during this portion of the tour. A signed waiver form will also be required.

Following the tour, the conversation will continue at the City Bar at the Lenox Hotel for those who wish to join. Attendees will be responsible for their own food/drinks.
