Llewellyn Williams Mansion International Hostel

Host Hotel

WCAPT is pleased to announce that this year's annual meeting will be held in Sacramento at the Llewellyn Williams International Hostel, a splendid example of a gold rush era mansion. It has been promoted by NorCalHostels.org as “one of California’s best travel deals and America’s most unique hostel.” Built in 1885 in an Italianate stick style, the mansion was determined to be so historically valuable that it was relocated twice to protect it from demolition, and is located now back at its original site. It features lavish sitting rooms, stained glass skylights, and elegantly carved stairways and chandeliers.

As the host hotel, the Hostel offers several unique and affordable rooms with baths, and several with shared baths. By booking your room through Sacramentohostel.org, a deposit is not needed to hold a reservation. Book early though, as rooms are limited! The annual meeting, presentations, tours and reception all begin at the mansion.

Gladding McBean Terra Cotta 8:00 AM

As part of WCAPT's Annual Meeting, Gladding McBean is offering an exclusive in-depth tour of their factory in Lincoln CA. Though usually closed on Saturdays, Gladding McBean has generously arranged to provide craftspeople on site to demonstrate actual production.

The tour begins at the factory at 9 AM. Round trip bus service from the Hostel is a part of the tour for the convenience of participants compliments of Page & Turnbull, or arrange to be at the tour site by 9:00 AM.

The tour bus leaves the Hostel at 8:15 AM sharp. A box lunch catered by Simple Pleasures Restaurant & Catering of Roseville is provided as part of this tour. This tour is expected to be very popular, and room on the bus is limited.

Tour starts at 9 AM and concludes at 12:30 PM. Lunches will be served before heading back to Sacramento, arriving back at 2:00 PM.

Annual Meeting 2:15 PM

The Annual Meeting is free to all members and interested members of the public. This year's meeting will include a welcome to our new Board members and an appreciation for departed members. Annual meetings typically cover highlights of the past year’s news, events, budget summary, and changes, as well as a look into the new year.

Sacramento Valley Station 3:00 PM

Join WCAPT for a technical presentation and a hard hat tour of the work currently being performed on the historic Sacramento Valley Station, part of the downtown transformation Sacramento is experiencing.

With the assistance of contractors Rudolf and Sletten, representatives from preservation architect Page & Turnbull will lead the tour through the project history and the rehabilitation of the historic finishes in the building. Evergreene Architectural Arts will describe the restoration of the John MacQuarrie mural in the main waiting room. Simpson Gumpertz and Heger will guide attendees through the exterior work, focusing on the rehabilitation of the steel windows and brick terra cotta façade.

The presentation begins on site at 3 PM. Limited parking is available at the station; more parking is available at the public garage at the corner of Third and I Street.

Reception 5:30 - 7:00 pm

A hosted wine Reception at the Hostel follows the Sacramento Valley Station with the generous support of Wiss, Janney, & Elstner Associates and Simpson, Gumpertz & Heger.  Socialize with fellow participants and Honored Guests while making plans for dinner in the Central Valley's Farm to Fork Capitol!
